Lake-Sumter State College offers 1 construction management pathway: an A.S. in Construction Management.
Program Pathways Overview
| Program | Est. Tuition | Est. Duration | Credit Hours |
|---|---|---|---|
| A.S. | $6.6K in-state / $26.6K out-of-state | 2 years (4 semesters) | 60 |
Tuition estimates use Lake-Sumter State College’s current per-credit tuition plus mandatory fees.
- Why choose it: Most of the A.S. runs online, and students can start in any term, summer included. Required coursework delivers OSHA 30 training and a 150-hour internship, and an internship director helps place students in paid roles with local partners.
- Trade-off: The A.S. is a career degree with no named construction management bachelor’s agreement, and the math requirement is any state core course rather than College Algebra. Students aiming for a four-year degree should plan math and electives early.

A.S. in Construction Management
The estimated tuition for the A.S. in Construction Management at Lake-Sumter State College is approximately $6,584 (60 credits at $109.73/credit).
The program can generally be completed in about 2 years (4 semesters) of full-time study.
Official program: Construction Management, Associate in Science.
A.S. Curriculum
The 60 credits split into 15 credits of general education, 42 credits of construction coursework, and a 3-credit elective. LSSC revised the curriculum effective August 11, 2026, adding courses in sustainability, surveying, soils, and running a construction business.
- General education (15): ENC 1101, a humanities core course, POS 2041 or AMH 2020, a state core mathematics course, and PHY 1020C Conceptual Physics
- Introductory (12): Intro to Building Construction, Introduction to Sustainability, Construction Surveying Methods, Soils and Foundations
- Intermediate (12): Blueprint Reading, Construction Materials/Methods 1 and 2, OSHA Standards for Construction, Managing a Construction Business
- Advanced (18): Construction Scheduling and Planning, Construction Estimating and Accounting, Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing Systems, Building Construction Law, Codes and Specs, Managing Building Construction, Internship
- Elective (3): one of MGF 1100, MAT 1033, CTS 2142 Project Management Concepts, BCN 2440 Concrete Construction Methods, ENC 1102, EVR 1001, or BCN 1940 Construction Practicum
The construction core tilts toward management. Six courses (17 credits) cover safety, scheduling, estimating and accounting, law and codes, project management, and business ownership. Eight courses (22 credits) cover materials, drawings, surveying, soils, sustainability, and building systems. There are no drafting or out-of-field manufacturing courses.
Managing a Construction Business is the course to note for future contractors. It covers company structure, licensing, finance, and operations. The scheduling course teaches Gantt charts, CPM, resource leveling, and cost-loaded schedules, but LSSC does not name the software used.

You Should Know
- The math requirement is any Area IV state core course. LSSC does not specify College Algebra, which matters if a bachelor’s in construction is the end goal.
- MAT 1033 Intermediate Algebra appears on the elective list. It counts toward this A.S. but may not transfer to a university.
- Students must earn a C or higher in every construction and program elective course.
- ⚠️ LSSC’s catalog still lists an 18-credit Building Construction Specialist certificate built on courses the revised A.S. no longer uses (Construction Accounting, Building Code Regulations). Its current status is not clearly stated; confirm with the program manager before enrolling in it.
A.S. Internship and Field Experience
- Required: BCN 2941 Building Construction Management Internship, 3 credits
- Hours: at least 50 clock hours per credit, so 150 hours minimum
- Paid status: LSSC says its internship director helps students land paid internships
- Named partners: LakeWorks, Romac, TBG Consulting, iBuild Central Florida, Habitat Central Florida, ABC Central Florida Chapter
- Placement guarantee: not clearly stated
A required internship with a dedicated placement staffer matters more in a mostly online program. It gives remote students a supervised jobsite reference before graduation, and the partner list mixes contractors, consultants, and a builders’ association that can lead to hiring contacts in Lake and Sumter counties.
A.S. Admissions
Admission is open, with rolling starts in fall, spring, or summer.

You Should Know
- High school building construction completers in partner districts can earn articulated credit. Sumter County’s 2025-2028 agreement awards BCN 1014 (3 credits) for LEED Green Associate and BCN 1732 (2 credits) for OSHA 30.
- BCN 1940 Construction Practicum awards 3 elective credits to Career Pathways completers who pass LSSC’s building trades exam.
- Articulated credit requires enrolling in the aligned program within 24 months of high school graduation and submitting documents to the Registrar.
- Florida residency documentation is required for the in-state rate.
Tuition
LSSC charges $109.73 per credit for Florida residents in associate programs. That is $81.20 tuition plus $28.53 in mandatory fees (financial aid $5.03, activity $7.56, capital improvement $11.88, technology $4.06). Non-residents pay $442.54 per credit.
| Item | In-State | Out-of-State |
|---|---|---|
| Tuition per credit | $81.20 | $81.20 |
| Out-of-state fee | None | $248.33 |
| Mandatory fees per credit | $28.53 | $113.01 |
| Total per credit | $109.73 | $442.54 |
| Program total (60 credits) | $6,583.80 | $26,552.40 |
Be aware that:
- PHY 1020C carries a $27 lab fee for 2026-2027. No construction course fees are listed.
- Online courses add a $15 per credit distance learning fee. If all 60 credits were online, that would add $900.
- On-campus courses add $4 per credit in parking and security fees, up to $240 for a fully on-campus schedule.
- Each online or on-campus credit triggers one of these fees, so the true add-on depends on the mix. Expect roughly $240 to $900 above the program total.
- The $30 application fee and the optional $25 per-term installment plan fee are not included.
- Students with all 8 articulated credits would skip about $878 in tuition.
Even a fully online schedule keeps the in-state all-in cost near $7,511 ($6,583.80 + $900 + $27). LSSC reports its tuition rates have not changed since 2012. See LSSC’s tuition and fees page.
Why Choose This Construction Management Program?
Best suited for students in Lake and Sumter counties who are already working, or who want to start mid-year without waiting for a fall cohort.
Working tradespeople. Mostly online delivery, rolling starts, and a business-ownership course suit carpenters, framers, and subcontractors who plan to run their own crews. OSHA 30 training comes with a required course rather than as a separate expense.
High school completers. Graduates of local building construction programs can carry up to 8 credits in. Seminole State is the Central Florida choice for an on-campus ladder into a bachelor’s; LSSC is the more flexible option for students who want to keep working.
Who should look elsewhere. Students set on a bachelor’s in construction management should confirm math and transfer credit before enrolling, since LSSC names no CM transfer agreement. Students who want software training in Procore, Bluebeam, or scheduling tools will not find it listed here.
Accreditation and Credentials
Lake-Sumter State College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award associate and baccalaureate degrees. Regional accreditation makes students eligible for federal financial aid and lets other accredited schools evaluate credits for transfer. See LSSC’s accreditation page.
LSSC does not list programmatic accreditation for this program from the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE) or ABET’s Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission. LSSC does not appear on ACCE’s associate degree list (Rev. 2025.03.20). Most two-year construction programs are not ACCE-accredited, so this is normal at this level.
The degree’s main credential value is OSHA 30 training, delivered in BCN 1732. Students who hold LEED Green Associate or OSHA 30 from a partner high school program can convert them into college credit. LSSC does not state any Florida contractor-licensing or AIC Associate Constructor exam relevance for this degree.
