Tuition estimates use UNF’s Fall 2026-Summer 2027 per-credit tuition plus mandatory per-credit fees.

  • Why choose it: The ACCE-accredited B.S. sits on a business base: two accounting courses, macro- and microeconomics, business statistics, and Calculus for Business, plus business law, management, and marketing alongside 42 credits of construction core.
  • Trade-off: Every lower-level prerequisite must be finished before upper-level BCN courses start, and both programs are in person in Jacksonville. The M.S. targets students who already hold a construction or civil engineering degree.

B.S. in Building Construction

The estimated tuition for the Bachelor of Science in Building Construction at the University of North Florida is approximately $25,558 (120 credits at $212.98/credit).

The program can generally be completed in about 4 years (8 semesters).

B.S. Curriculum

The degree splits into 41 prerequisite credits, 42 construction core credits, 9 business credits, 9 major elective credits, and remaining general education. UNF states the major is 60 upper-division credits.

  • Math and science: Calculus for Business (Calculus I accepted), Elementary Statistics for Business, Algebra-based Physics I with lab, plus Physics II or General Chemistry I with lab
  • Business prerequisites: Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Computer Applications for Business
  • Estimating and cost: Construction Cost Estimating, Advanced Construction Estimating, Construction Finance and Cost Controls
  • Project management: Construction Documents/Contracts, Project Planning and Scheduling, Construction Project Management Capstone, Construction Safety
  • Technical systems: Soils and Foundations, Structural Systems, Mechanical and Electrical Systems, Building Construction Design and Code, Construction Techniques
  • Business upper division: Legal Environment of Business, Principles of Management, Principles of Marketing
  • Electives (choose 3): BIM, Green Construction/Sustainability, Heavy Civil Construction, Housing and Land Development, Advanced Residential Construction, Construction Equipment, International Construction, History of Construction
  • Residential Construction concentration: replaces two electives with Housing and Land Development and Advanced Residential Construction; one elective remains, with Real Estate Analysis added as an option

The upper division leans management. Of the 42 core credits, about 23 cover estimating, finance, contracts, scheduling, project management, safety, and the internship; about 15 cover structures, soils, MEP systems, codes, and techniques. Add the 9 business credits and the 15 lower-level business credits, and business content rivals the technical side. The math sits between the two nearby benchmarks: more than a College Algebra degree, less than the Calculus I-III sequence in UCF’s Construction Engineering B.S.

You Should Know
  • BIM is an elective, not a required course. Students targeting VDC or preconstruction roles should pick it deliberately.
  • Every course in the major and minor requires a C or better, and once enrolled, UNF expects major courses to be completed at UNF.
  • The listed requirements total 101 credits plus 18 general education credits, or 119. The remaining credit to reach 120 is not clearly assigned in the catalog.
  • Earlier UNF catalogs noted that BCN courses typically run only in set terms. Missing one can delay graduation, so advising each term matters.

B.S. Internship and Field Experience

  • Required: BCN 4944 Construction Management Internship
  • Credits: 2
  • Hours: minimum 200 in one semester
  • Paid status: not clearly stated
  • Placement support: not clearly stated
  • Employer ties: 22 sponsored scholarships from firms and groups including The Haskell Company, Elkins Constructors, Stellar Group, Whiting-Turner, and Miller Electric

A required internship means every graduate leaves with documented jobsite time, which employers screening for field engineer and assistant project manager roles expect. The scholarship list shows active Jacksonville contractor involvement, though UNF does not describe these firms as internship hosts. The department’s stated goal is to place over 90% of graduates in construction jobs within six months; it publishes this as an objective, not a reported result.

B.S. Admissions

The major has no selective admission, but the prerequisite gate controls when construction coursework can begin.

  • Admission to UNF and declaring Building Construction as the major
  • Minimum 2.0 GPA
  • Transfer admission: 63 college credits with a 2.0 GPA and completed general education
  • All lower-level prerequisites completed with a C or better before upper-level BCN courses (one-term exception if finishing final prerequisites)
  • A Florida A.A. from a public college or university satisfies UNF general education; out-of-state transfers may need extra general education
  • Required advising meeting to set a program of study
You Should Know
  • Community college students should complete the business calculus, accounting, economics, physics, and statistics prerequisites before transferring. Arriving without them can add a semester or more.

M.S. in Construction Management

The estimated tuition for the Master of Science in Construction Management at the University of North Florida is approximately $14,806 (30 credits at $493.53/credit).

The program can generally be completed in about 1.5 years (4 semesters).

M.S. Curriculum

All three tracks share a 15-credit core. Duration is derived from 30 credits at a 9-credit full-time graduate load.

  • Core (15 credits): Research Methods in Construction, Construction Planning and Scheduling, Construction Law, Production Management in Construction, Construction Labor Resources
  • Coursework track: 15 elective credits at the 5000 level or above
  • Thesis track: 9 elective credits plus 6 thesis credits
  • Executive thesis track: 3-9 elective credits plus 6-12 credits of project-based thesis
  • Construction electives: Advanced Construction Technology, BIM, Sustainability, Constructability, Environmental Issues in Land Development, Advanced Construction Safety and Health
  • Cross-college electives: Financial Management, Cornerstones of Management, Risk Assessment, Advanced Reinforced Concrete, Ground and Site Improvement, Solar Energy Devices, Making Decisions with Data

The core is management-heavy: law, labor, production, and scheduling, with no required estimating or technical course. Electives can tilt the degree toward finance and management or toward civil and mechanical engineering, so the program of study, which must be approved by the end of the second semester, shapes the degree more than the core does.

You Should Know
  • Minimum grade rules conflict. The catalog requires a C or better; the department page requires a B or better.
  • Transfer credit rules conflict. The catalog allows 12 transfer credits; the department page allows 6, or 12 only from Florida public universities.
  • The elective rule is written for students whose bachelor’s is in construction management. Requirements for civil engineering or other graduates are not clearly stated.

M.S. Internship and Field Experience

  • No internship or practicum is required
  • The executive thesis track centers on project-based research, which can draw on the student’s own projects

The M.S. assumes field experience already exists. The executive track’s 5-year experience rule makes it a credential for working project managers rather than a route into the field.

M.S. Admissions

The executive track requires five years of industry experience, with three at project manager level or above.

  • Bachelor of Science in construction, civil engineering, or a closely related field; other majors considered case by case
  • 3.0 GPA (the department applies it to upper-division work, typically the last 60 credits)
  • Completed BCN 2405 Introduction to Structures and PHY 2053 Algebra-Based Physics I or equivalents
  • Resume and $30 application fee
  • Starts in fall, spring, or summer (deadlines August 1, December 1, April 15)

Tuition

UNF charges undergraduates $212.98 per credit in-state and $765.14 out-of-state. Base tuition is $105.07, plus a $37.63 tuition differential fee; the rest is mandatory fees. Graduate students pay $493.53 in-state and $1,126.88 out-of-state, with $408.10 base tuition. See UNF’s undergraduate and graduate tuition pages.

Other Mandatory Fees$70.28$96.58$85.43$115.59
Total$212.98$765.14$493.53$1,126.88

Program totals: B.S. $25,557.60 in-state and $91,816.80 out-of-state (120 credits); M.S. $14,805.90 in-state and $33,806.40 out-of-state (30 credits).

Be aware that:

  • A Florida A.A. transfer paying only the 60 upper-division credits would pay about $12,779 in-state.
  • UNF graduates who start the M.S. within five years of their bachelor’s, with continuous enrollment, qualify for an exclusive rate of $353.78 in-state, about $10,613 for 30 credits.
  • Students with a pre-2007 Florida Prepaid plan are exempt from the $37.63 differential, lowering the undergraduate rate to $175.35.
  • Lab and material fees of $5-$70 apply to some courses; the B.S. includes 7 lecture/lab (“C”) BCN courses.
  • Any online section adds a $30 per-credit distance learning fee.
  • Out-of-state fees rose 15% in Fall 2026. Resident rates did not change.

For Florida residents, UNF’s undergraduate rate is effectively the same as UCF’s ($0.70 per credit apart), so cost does not separate the two. The bigger lever is the bachelor’s-to-master’s path: a UNF graduate on the exclusive rate saves about $4,193 on the M.S., bringing a full B.S. plus M.S. to roughly $36,200 in-state before aid.

Why Choose This Construction Management Program?

Best suited for students in Northeast Florida who want an accredited construction degree with a strong business core and plan to work for regional general contractors.

The business-heavy route. Accounting, economics, business law, management, and marketing sit inside the required path. That suits students aiming for estimating, project controls, or eventual ownership of a contracting firm. Students who want deep structural design should look at an engineering degree instead.

The Jacksonville advantage. The required internship and a scholarship list full of regional contractors place students in front of First Coast employers before graduation. Students who want to build careers in Northeast Florida gain the most from that network; those planning to work in South Florida or out of state get less of it.

The master’s ladder. UNF B.S. graduates can move straight into the M.S. at the exclusive rate, and experienced project managers can return later through the executive thesis track. Students without a construction or engineering undergraduate degree should plan for prerequisites first.

Accreditation and Credentials

The University of North Florida is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral degrees. That accreditation makes students eligible for federal financial aid and supports credit transfer to other accredited schools. See UNF’s accreditation page.

The B.S. in Building Construction is accredited by the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE). ACCE’s bachelor’s list (revision 2024.03.13) shows UNF’s last accreditation in July 2020, with a July 2026 expiration; UNF’s 2026-27 catalog still lists the accreditation, so confirm current status with the department.

UNF’s graduate school states that the M.S. is also ACCE-accredited, but UNF does not appear on ACCE’s master’s list (revision 2025.03.20), which names six programs. UNF’s own catalog accreditation table lists only the B.S.

Neither degree embeds an industry certification. UNF does not state any Florida contractor-licensing or AIC Associate Constructor exam relevance for either program.
