Tuition estimates use Valencia College’s current per-credit tuition plus mandatory fees for associate-level courses.

Valencia College builds its construction management degree on an engineering technology core. Before the 24-credit Construction Management specialization begins, every student completes surveying, statics and strength of materials, engineering materials, and two CAD courses. The specialization then adds architectural drawing, architectural design, and Building Information Modeling in Revit with Dynamo. Drafting, design, and BIM account for 5 of the degree’s 14 required technical courses.

The trade-off is management depth. Only 4 required courses (12 credits) cover contracts, scheduling, estimating, and building systems management. No internship is required, and Valencia has no construction bachelor’s degree. Its in-house B.A.S. is in Business and Organizational Leadership.

Construction Specialist, Technical Certificate (CIP 0615100103)

Certificate Curriculum

Four courses are required (12 credits), plus 6 credits of construction electives.

  • MTB 2321C Technical Math (3 credits)
  • ETC 1251C Engineering Materials and Processes (3)
  • BCN 2721C Construction Scheduling and Management (3)
  • BCT 2770C Building Construction Estimating (3)
  • Electives (choose 6 credits): BCN 1272 Construction Blueprint Reading, BCT 1705 Contracts, Codes, Specifications, and Office Practices, BCN 2563 Building Systems and Management, TAR 2170C Introduction to Architectural Revit, SUR 1101C Basic Surveying Measurements, BCN 2941, or BCN 2942 Internship

The certificate is more management-weighted than the A.S. core: scheduling and estimating are both required, and contracts or building systems can fill the electives. Valencia states every certificate course is embedded in the A.S. Choosing BCT 1705 and BCN 2563 as electives makes all 18 credits count as required A.S. courses. More curriculum details are available here.

Certificate Internship and Field Experience

  • No internship is required.
  • BCN 2942 Internship in Construction and Civil Engineering Technology (1-4 credits) can fill an elective slot.
  • Hours per credit, paid status, and employer partners: not clearly stated.

Students who already work in construction can skip the internship. Career changers should use the elective for it, since the required courses are classroom-based.

Certificate Admissions

Admission is open, with no orientation or placement testing required for certificate-only students.

  • Rolling admission; $35 application fee
  • Developmental (prep) courses are not required for technical certificates
  • Financial aid eligible (Valencia covers certificates of 16 credits or more)
You Should Know
  • BCN 2941 appears in the catalog’s elective list with no course title. Confirm its content with the program chair before choosing it.
  • Students who switch to the A.S. must then complete orientation and English and math placement.
  • All certificate courses run on West Campus and may not be offered every session.

  • General education: ENC 1101, a general education math course, humanities, science, and POS 2041 or U.S. history

The math requirement is Technical Math plus one general education math course; Valencia’s program outcomes call for algebra and trigonometry. The curriculum suits estimating, scheduling, and drafting roles that work from plans and models. It does not include construction law, accounting, or safety courses. More curriculum details are available here.

A.S. Internship and Field Experience

  • No internship is required.
  • BCN 2942 Internship (1-4 credits) can fill the technology elective.
  • Internship and Workforce Services helps students locate internships.
  • Hours, paid status, and employer partners: not clearly stated.

Field experience is optional, so the degree’s job value rests on drafting, BIM, and estimating skills. Students without site experience should take the internship elective. Florida’s contractor exam also requires foreman and skilled-worker experience that the degree does not supply.

A.S. Admissions

Admission is open, but first-time students face a restricted first semester.

  • Rolling admission; $35 application fee; New Student Orientation required
  • English and math placement through SAT, ACT, CLT, or PERT scores less than two years old
  • The first 18 credits must include ENC 1101, ETD 1031C, and a math course
  • Inbound credit: Orange Technical College Building Construction Technologies completers can earn up to 9 credits (ETC 1251C, ETD 1031C, BCN 1272) with NCCER certifications, within three years of graduating
  • Other credit routes: Osceola Technical College programs, approved industry certifications, and high school Career Pathways credit
You Should Know
  • Specialized courses are offered only on West Campus and may not run every session. Valencia estimates two to three years for most full-time A.S. students.
  • BCN 1272, one of the three articulated Orange Technical College courses, is not required in the Construction Management specialization. It counts only as the technology elective (derived from the BCN-prefix elective rule).
  • Valencia’s catalog says students transferring to Seminole State College must complete College Algebra. Choose it as the general education math course if a bachelor’s is possible.

Tuition

Valencia charges $82.66 per credit in tuition plus $20.40 in mandatory fees, for $103.06 per credit in-state. Out-of-state students pay $390.96 per credit. Valencia’s trustees approved no increase for 2026-27. Full rates are on Valencia’s tuition and fees page.

Fee (per credit)In-StateOut-of-State
Tuition$82.66$82.66
Out-of-State Fee–$247.87
Student Financial Aid Fee$3.83$15.34
Technology Fee$3.83$15.34
Student Activity and Service Fee$7.07$7.07
Capital Improvement Fee$5.67$22.68
Total$103.06$390.96

Program totals:

  • Certificate: 18 × $103.06 = $1,855.08 in-state; 18 × $390.96 = $7,037.28 out-of-state
  • A.S.: 60 × $103.06 = $6,183.60 in-state; 60 × $390.96 = $23,457.60 out-of-state

Be aware that:

  • Lab fees apply to 10 required A.S. courses and total $392: $59 (ETD 1031C), $66 each (ETD 1103C, ETD 1340C), $40 (SUR 1101C), $28 each (BCN 2721C, BCT 2770C, TAR 1120C, TAR 2033C), $26 (ETC 1251C), and $23 (BCN 1303C).
  • Certificate lab fees total $82 for the required courses, or $122 if SUR 1101C is an elective.
  • The technology elective may carry its own lab fee.
  • Lab fees come from the 2025-26 schedule; the trustees approved no changes for 2026-27.
  • The 9 articulated Orange Technical College credits are worth about $927.54 at the in-state rate (derived), leaving 51 billed credits.
  • Books, supplies, and software costs are not clearly stated.

All-in, the A.S. costs about $6,611 in-state with lab fees and the application fee. Out-of-state students pay nearly four times as much, so the in-state rate drives the value case.

Why Choose This Construction Management Program?

Best suited for Orlando-area students who want drafting and BIM skills alongside estimating and scheduling, and who plan to work right after the A.S.

Orlando-area students comparing Valencia and Seminole State: The two A.S. degrees cost about the same, $6,183.60 at Valencia against $6,263 at Seminole State College of Florida in Sanford. Seminole State requires a 2-credit internship and feeds its own ACCE-accredited B.S. in Construction. Valencia offers more drafting and BIM coursework but no construction bachelor’s. Students on the west side of Orlando who want a degree near home and a job after two years fit Valencia. Students set on a construction bachelor’s should start at Seminole State, or take College Algebra at Valencia and transfer.

Graduates of Orange Technical College: Building Construction Technologies completers with NCCER credentials can start with up to 9 credits awarded. That covers ETD 1031C, one of the three courses Valencia requires in the first semester.

The honest trade-offs: The A.S. is campus-based at West Campus, with 11 lecture/lab courses. Contracts, scheduling, estimating, and building systems are covered, but law, accounting, and safety are not. Valencia’s program page lists potential earnings of $62,557, from 2022-23 Florida Education and Training Placement Information Program data.

Accreditation and Credentials

Valencia College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award associate and baccalaureate degrees. Institutional accreditation supports credit transfer and eligibility for federal financial aid.

No programmatic accreditation is listed. Valencia does not appear on ACCE’s associate-degree list (March 2025 revision). Most two-year construction programs are not ACCE-accredited, so this is common at the associate level.

Valencia states that completing the A.S. earns credit for two of the four years required to sit for Florida’s General Contractor exam. Florida Statute 489.111 allows two years of college credit to combine with one year as a skilled worker and one year as a foreman. The degree does not replace the foreman year. No industry certifications are embedded in either pathway.
