- Why choose it: It is the only Florida program on ACCE’s associate degree list (Rev. 2025.03.20), renewed through July 31, 2028. Students also frame, roof, and side a 1,250-square-foot Habitat for Humanity house built on campus each year.
- Trade-off: The A.S. targets residential and light commercial jobs, and its sample math course is Mathematical Thinking. UF’s Rinker School asks Santa Fe transfers to arrive with an A.A., calculus, statistics, and two semesters of physics.

A.S. in Construction Management Technology
The estimated tuition for the A.S. in Construction Management Technology at Santa Fe College is approximately $6,406 (60 credits at $106.77/credit).
The program can generally be completed in about 2 years (4 semesters) of full-time study.
A.S. Curriculum
The degree pairs 15 general education credits with a 45-credit professional core. The core leans toward building methods and technical content, with three management-focused courses plus estimating.
- General education (15 credits): ENC 1101 College Composition, one math course, a humanities course, a natural science course, and a civic literacy course (AMH 2020 or POS 2041).
- Math: The catalog accepts College Algebra (MAC 1105), Calculus 1 (MAC 2311), Mathematical Thinking (MGF 1130), or Statistics (STA 2023). The advisement track lists only MGF 1130.
- Management and estimating: BCN 2005 Introduction to Construction Management, BCT 2750 Construction Management 2, BCT 2770 Construction Estimating, BCN 1760 Construction Codes and Regulations.
- Construction methods and systems: BCN 1210 Building Construction Materials, BCN 1214C Basic Structure, BCN 2215C Finishes and Systems, BCN 2560 Related Specialty Trades, BCN 1004 Construction Field Technology.
- Design and documents: BCN 1251C Light Construction Drafting, BCN 2272 Blueprint Reading, BCN 2450 Structural Design.
- Field skills: SUR 2001C Construction Surveying.
- Capstone: BCN 2939C Construction Capstone.
- Business elective (3 credits): one of accounting, accounting software, business law, macro- or microeconomics, introduction to business, or principles of management.
Of the 15 core courses, four center on management, codes, and estimating. Seven cover materials, structures, systems, and field work, and three cover drafting and plans. That balance suits a graduate who will run small residential and light commercial jobs. It gives less depth in contracts, finance, and scheduling than the program’s own learning outcomes suggest.
More curriculum details are available here.
You Should Know
- The learning outcomes list scheduling and construction accounting, but no required course is named for either. Accounting appears only as one business elective option.
- No software (AutoCAD, Revit, Procore, Bluebeam, scheduling tools) is named in the program materials.
- The program page’s four-term sample plan does not match the catalog. It lists a 4-credit “BCT 2005 Management 1,” shows a 19-credit spring term labeled 15, and omits BCN 2450 Structural Design. Follow the catalog’s 60-credit list.
- Five courses carry the “C” lecture/lab suffix: BCN 1214C, BCN 1251C, BCN 2215C, BCN 2939C, and SUR 2001C.
A.S. Internship and Field Experience
- Internship: not required, and no internship course is listed.
- Summer work: the program encourages students to work or intern during summers, when CM courses typically do not run.
- Habitat for Humanity: students help build a 1,250-square-foot house each academic year at the Perry Construction Institute. College news coverage says CM students handle framing, roofing, windows, doors, and siding.
- Capstone: BCN 2939C, taken after estimating, drafting, and blueprint reading.
- Paid status, placement support, and employer partners: not clearly stated.
The Habitat build is the program’s real field experience. Students work on a full house alongside apprenticeship trades, giving hands-on framing and envelope work before graduation. Without a required internship, students who want office-side experience in estimating or project coordination need to find summer jobs on their own.
A.S. Admissions
Santa Fe College has open admission, but the program accepts no summer starts.
- Must be at least 16 years old; high school dual enrollment students are welcome.
- Complete Santa Fe College’s admission process and declare the A.S. (program code 3610) as the primary program.
- Transfer credits must be posted and evaluated before they count.
- All general education and core courses, and any prerequisite course, require a grade of C or higher.
- Many entry-level courses are open to the public and to industry members updating their training.
Tuition
Santa Fe College charges $77.98 per credit in tuition for lower-division courses. Mandatory fees bring the in-state total to $106.77 per credit. Out-of-state students add $231.12 in non-resident tuition and higher fees, for $382.90 per credit.
| Per-Credit Item | In-State | Out-of-State |
|---|---|---|
| Tuition | $77.98 | $77.98 |
| Non-Resident Tuition | None | $231.12 |
| Capital Improvement | $8.66 | $31.67 |
| Financial Aid | $3.83 | $15.33 |
| Student Activities | $7.80 | $7.80 |
| Technology | $3.50 | $14.00 |
| Access | $2.00 | $2.00 |
| Transportation | $3.00 | $3.00 |
| Total per Credit | $106.77 | $382.90 |
| 60-Credit A.S. (derived) | $6,406.20 | $22,974.00 |
Full rates are on Santa Fe College’s tuition and fee schedule. The college kept credit-hour rates unchanged for 2026-27.
Be aware that:
- Totals assume all 60 credits at the lower-division rate, which matches every course in the degree.
- Lab fees are charged per course and are not in the per-credit total. Amounts for the five “C” lecture/lab courses are not clearly stated on the program page.
- Any online section adds a $10-per-credit distance learning fee.
- The program page’s own fee breakdown is out of date (it shows $3.50 for the financial aid fee and sums to $106.44). Use the college tuition schedule.
- A $20 enrollment application fee applies.
At about $6,400 for Florida residents, the degree’s real added costs are course lab fees, books, and tools. Commuting to the Northwest Campus is the other factor, since the program is not offered online.
Why Choose This Construction Management Program?
Best suited for North Central Florida students who want to start running residential or light commercial jobs within two years and value a degree with ACCE review behind it.
Accreditation at the associate level. Other ACCE-accredited Florida options are bachelor’s programs, such as Seminole State’s B.S. Santa Fe College is the in-state option that carries ACCE review on the two-year degree itself.
The transfer verdict. Choose the A.S. to work after graduation. Choose Santa Fe College’s A.A. with construction emphasis to transfer to UF’s Rinker School, which requires an A.A., MAC 2311, STA 2023, and physics I and II. A.S. students who later change plans should take College Algebra or Calculus over Mathematical Thinking and expect some A.S. courses to count only as electives.
Who should look elsewhere. Students who need online or evening-only classes will find more flexibility at Lake-Sumter State College. Students who want named software training or a required internship will not find either here.
Accreditation and Credentials
Santa Fe College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award associate and baccalaureate degrees. Institutional accreditation keeps students eligible for federal financial aid and lets other schools evaluate credits for transfer. See Santa Fe College’s accreditation page.
The A.S. is accredited by the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE). At its July 25, 2025 meeting, ACCE renewed the program for three years, with expiration on July 31, 2028 and the next review in fall 2027. ACCE terms run up to seven years. See ACCE’s notice of accreditation actions.
The program embeds no industry certifications. Santa Fe College does not state any Florida contractor-licensing or AIC Associate Constructor exam relevance for the degree.
