Tuition estimates use UWF’s 2026-2027 per-credit tuition plus mandatory fees for Pensacola campus courses.

  • Why choose it: UWF ties its B.S. to Florida contractor licensing. It states that graduates with a 3.0 GPA can skip the trade knowledge exam and sit only for Business and Finance. A 3-credit internship is required, and UWF names 14 contractors that routinely hire its interns.
  • Trade-off: The B.S. is not ACCE-accredited, unlike the nearest public alternative at UNF. It is a Pensacola campus program, and the technical core runs through precalculus, physics, statics, and two structures courses.

B.S. Curriculum

The degree combines 25-26 credits of state common prerequisites, a 39-credit major, and 21 credits of major-related electives. General education and electives fill the rest of the 120 credits.

  • Math and science prerequisites (13-14): MAC 2233 Calculus with Business Applications or MAC 2311 Calculus I, STA 2023 Statistics, PHY 2053 Algebra-Based Physics I with lab
  • Construction and business prerequisites (12): Construction Drawings, Construction Materials, Statics and Strength of Materials, Principles of Financial Accounting, Macroeconomics
  • Management and cost (15): Construction Estimating, Scheduling, Construction Administration, Construction Finance and Controls, Construction Management Internship
  • Structures and mechanics (9): Construction Mechanics, Structures I, Structures II
  • Field and compliance (9): Construction Survey and Building Layout, Construction Safety, Building Codes
  • Design technology (6): Computer Aided Design, Building Information Modeling
  • Major-related electives (21): chosen from Sustainable Construction, Project Management, Operations Management, Contract Law, Employment Law, Business and Professional Communication, Personal Finance, or advisor-approved courses

The required major splits about evenly. Five courses (15 credits) cover estimating, scheduling, administration, finance, and the internship. Four (12 credits) cover mechanics, structures, and layout, and CAD and BIM add another 6. The 21 elective credits are where students tilt the degree toward management, law, or sustainability. The math path starts at precalculus, a step above College Algebra-only programs.

You Should Know
  • Common prerequisites must be finished before graduation but are not required for admission. Florida college students can complete them before transferring.
  • The catalog caps traditional business subjects at 24% of program requirements, which limits how far electives can lean into business.
  • Four major and prerequisite courses carry a “C” lecture/lab suffix: Construction Drawings, Construction Survey and Building Layout, Building Information Modeling, and Scheduling.
  • UWF says courses have historically run in the evenings for working professionals. It does not guarantee an evening schedule.

B.S. Internship and Field Experience

  • Required: yes, BCN 4940 Construction Management Internship
  • Credits: 3
  • Hours: not clearly stated
  • Paid status: not clearly stated
  • Employers that routinely hire UWF interns: Morette Company, Wharton-Smith, Hensel Phelps, Biggs Construction, Greenhut Construction, Hanto and Clark, Green-Simmons, Williams Brown, Parsco, and five others

Every graduate leaves with documented jobsite time, and UWF describes the internship as a common route to full-time hiring. The named list mixes Pensacola-area general contractors with national builders such as Hensel Phelps. Students already working in construction can use evening classes to keep their day jobs.

You Should Know
  • UWF’s marketing page lists BCN 4940 as “Construction Internship/Senior Project,” while the 2026-2027 catalog calls it “Construction Management Internship.” Whether a senior project can replace the internship is not clearly stated.

B.S. Admissions

The major has no separate application or limited-access gate stated.

  • Admission through UWF’s general freshman or transfer process
  • Math placement sets each student’s starting point on the precalculus-to-calculus path
  • Florida A.A. holders and state college students can satisfy the common prerequisites with equivalent courses listed in Florida’s Common Prerequisites Manual
  • Major courses count toward a separate major GPA

  • Online sections drop the $8 transportation fee but add a $15 distance learning fee, for $220.23 per credit in-state.
  • Materials and supplies fees vary by course and are not listed for the construction courses.
  • The Argo 30 Guarantee covers fall and spring tuition for qualifying Pell-eligible Florida residents.
  • Excess hour fees of $105.07 per credit can apply above 132 credits (110% of the degree) for students who first entered college in fall 2012 or later.
  • UWF’s financial aid page still shows the 2025-2026 rate of $211.98. Its transfer page rounds the 2026-2027 rate to $214.

For Florida residents, the B.S. runs about $25,600 in tuition and fees before aid, with lab material fees the main unknown. Alabama residents near the state line pay about $46,700 less than standard out-of-state students over 120 credits. See UWF’s 2026-2027 tuition and fee schedule.

Why Choose This Construction Management Program?

Best suited for Panhandle and south Alabama students who plan to hold a Florida contractor license and want internship placement with regional builders.

The licensing route. UWF frames the degree around Florida’s contractor exams. It states that the four-year degree counts toward license experience and that coursework uses references similar to the state exams. Students who finish with a 3.0 GPA can, per UWF, attest out of the trade knowledge exam. That makes GPA a career decision, not just a transcript number.

Rival comparison. UNF charges Florida residents almost the same rate ($212.98 per credit), holds ACCE accreditation, and requires a 2-credit internship. UWF counters with a 3-credit internship, a named employer list, two structures courses plus construction mechanics, and an Alabama rate that UNF does not offer. Students who want an accredited degree should weigh UNF first. Students rooted in Northwest Florida or Alabama get more from UWF’s location and pricing.

Who should look elsewhere. Students who need a fully online degree or a program with ACCE standing will not find either here. Those who want a lighter math load should note the precalculus and calculus requirements.

Accreditation and Credentials

The University of West Florida is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). Institutional accreditation keeps students eligible for federal financial aid and lets other schools evaluate credits for transfer.

UWF lists no programmatic accreditation for the B.S. from the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE) or ABET. UWF does not appear on ACCE’s baccalaureate list (Rev. 2024.03.13), which includes UNF, UF, FIU, FGCU, Florida Tech, and Seminole State. Some employers and graduate programs look for ACCE status, so students should weigh it.

No industry certification is embedded in the degree. UWF’s main credential claim is licensing: citing the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, it states that building construction graduates with a 3.0 GPA take only the Business and Finance exam for any Florida construction license type. Applicants should confirm their degree qualifies with DBPR before applying.
