Tuition estimates use University of Miami’s 2026-27 standard graduate rate of $2,763 per credit. Florida and out-of-state students pay the same rate.
- Why choose it: Four routes lead to the same 30-credit master’s: a hybrid M.S., an online M.S., a 10-seat Executive M.S., or two stacked 12-credit certificates plus two practicums. Electives draw from engineering, architecture, real estate development, and business.
- Trade-off: The M.S. costs about $82,900 in tuition at UM’s standard private graduate rate, and no master’s pathway requires an estimating or scheduling course. Admission is limited to bachelor’s holders in named fields such as engineering, architecture, business, or construction management.

M.S. in Construction Management (Hybrid)
The estimated tuition for the M.S. in Construction Management (Hybrid) at University of Miami is approximately $82,890 (30 credits at $2,763/credit).
The program can generally be completed in about 1 year full-time or 1.5 years on the published part-time plan.
The M.S. in Construction Management (Hybrid) runs mostly in person with some online courses. The 1-year plan loads 12 credits in fall, 15 in spring, and a 3-credit summer capstone.
M.S. (Hybrid) Curriculum
The degree has 19 to 20 core credits and 10 to 11 elective credits. Cores 2 through 5 form a required Sustainable and Resilient Construction track.
- Project management (3): Fundamentals of Construction Management, Construction Project Management, or a real estate or industrial engineering equivalent
- BIM and documents (3): Virtual Design and Construction (VDC/BIM), Building Information Modeling II, or Computer Aided Architecture Engineering Design
- Construction economics (3-4): Construction Accounting and Finance, or accounting and sustainable finance pairings from the business school
- Contracting and risk (3): Legal Issues in Building Construction
- Sustainable construction (3): Sustainable Construction, Building Technology, or Sustainable Development with LEED Exam Prep
- Professional practice (4): Capstone Internship or Capstone Project, plus a 1-credit seminar
- Electives (10-11): about 70 options, including Advanced Planning and Scheduling, Preconstruction Services, Lean Construction, Forensic Engineering, real estate finance, and leadership courses
The core is management-heavy. Six of seven core areas cover project management, finance, law, sustainability, and practice; BIM is the only technical requirement. Estimating and scheduling appear only as electives, so students heading into project controls should choose them deliberately. Several business-school electives carry 2 credits, which explains the variable elective count.

You Should Know
- Students on F-1 or J-1 visas may take only one online course (up to 3 credits) per term while enrolled full-time.
- The published 1-year plan requires a 15-credit spring term.
M.S. (Hybrid) Internship and Field Experience
- Choice of CAE 769 Construction Management Capstone Internship or CMA 674 Capstone Project (3 credits)
- Internship hours and paid status: Not clearly stated
- Placement support: Industry Advisory Board members mentor students and host internships and practicums
- Named employer partners: Not clearly stated
Because the internship is optional, career changers without field time should pick CAE 769 over the capstone project. The advisory board link gives a direct route to Miami-area contractors, but the program does not publish placement rates or employer names.
M.S. (Hybrid) Admissions
Admission is limited by undergraduate major, which rules out applicants with unrelated bachelor’s degrees.
- Bachelor’s from a regionally accredited institution in engineering, architecture, environmental or physical sciences, environmental science and policy, business, management, economics, or construction management
- Other requirements follow the UM Graduate School
- GRE and GMAT not required
- Minimum GPA and work experience: Not clearly stated
M.S. in Construction Management (Online)
The estimated tuition for the M.S. in Construction Management (Online) at University of Miami is approximately $82,890 (30 credits at $2,763/credit).
The program can generally be completed in about 1 year full-time or 1.5 years on the published part-time plan.
The M.S. in Construction Management (Online) uses a fixed 18-credit core and 12 elective credits. It is listed in the 2026-27 bulletin.
M.S. (Online) Curriculum
- Project management (3): Construction Project Management or Project Management Techniques
- BIM and documents (3): Computer Aided Architecture Engineering Design
- Construction economics (3): Construction Accounting and Finance
- Contracting and risk (3): Legal Issues in Building Construction
- Sustainable construction (3): Sustainable Construction or Building Technology: Materials and Methods
- Professional practice (3): Construction Management Capstone Internship (required)
- Electives (12): about 29 options, including Advanced Planning and Scheduling, Preconstruction Services, Supply Chain Management, Risk Management and Resilience, and Facilities Operation and Management
The online core has fewer choices than the hybrid version. Its BIM requirement is met by a CAD course rather than the VDC/BIM course, and its elective list drops the real estate and business-school sustainability courses. As with the hybrid degree, estimating and scheduling are elective only.
More curriculum details are available here.
You Should Know
- The sample plans list MGT 624 Negotiation Strategies, which is not on the online elective list. Confirm elective approval with the program director.
- Whether any synchronous sessions or campus visits are required is not clearly stated.
M.S. (Online) Internship and Field Experience
- Required: CAE 769 Construction Management Capstone Internship (3 credits)
- Hours, paid status, and placement for distant students: Not clearly stated
- Optional practicums: Construction Site Practicum and Construction Management Practicum appear as electives
The required internship gives online students a documented field component, which matters for career changers. Students outside South Florida should ask whether UM arranges local placements or expects them to find their own.
M.S. (Online) Admissions
Requirements match the hybrid M.S., including the restricted list of qualifying bachelor’s fields and no GRE or GMAT.
Executive M.S. in Construction Management
The estimated tuition for the Executive M.S. in Construction Management at University of Miami is approximately $82,890 (30 credits at $2,763/credit).
The program can generally be completed in about 1.5 to 2 years.
The Executive M.S. in Construction Management admits up to 10 students each fall. Classes meet mostly in person in late afternoons, evenings, and weekends, with some online options, and are taught by leaders of major construction organizations.
Executive M.S. Curriculum
The core runs 18 to 20 credits; electives fill the remaining 11 to 12 and need program director approval.
- Company leadership: Operating and Managing a Construction Organization, Professional Leadership Seminar, Managing Through People
- Finance: Construction Accounting and Finance
- Disputes and law (2-3): Prevention and Resolution of Contract Disputes, Forensic Engineering, or Legal Issues in Building Construction
- Risk (3-4): Case Studies in Risk Management with Construction Forensics, or Risk Management and Resilience
- Capstone (4): CMA 801 Executive Capstone Project
- Electives: includes Advanced Planning and Scheduling, Emerging Technologies, Lean Construction, Quality Management, and real estate finance and transactions
This is the most leadership-focused of UM’s options. It assumes students already know estimating and field operations and builds toward running a company, managing claims, and controlling risk. Technical coursework is limited to electives.
More curriculum details are available here.
You Should Know
- The risk core pairs Case Studies in Risk Management with Construction Forensics, but both suggested plans list Case Studies in Risk Management alone. Confirm how the requirement is met.
- The “accomplished professionals” target is not tied to a stated minimum of years in the industry.
Executive M.S. Internship and Field Experience
- Practical experience is required while enrolled; credits and hours: Not clearly stated
- F-1 students need Curricular Practical Training authorization before any off-campus experience
- CMA 801 Executive Capstone Project (4 credits)
For working professionals, the practical-experience requirement is usually met through current employment. The small cohort and industry-leader faculty serve as the networking component.
Executive M.S. Admissions
Entry is fall only, with 10 seats per year.
- Same bachelor’s field restriction as the M.S.
- GRE and GMAT not required
- Experience requirement: Not clearly stated
Graduate Certificate in Construction Management
The estimated tuition for the Graduate Certificate in Construction Management at University of Miami is approximately $33,156 (12 credits at $2,763/credit).
The program can generally be completed in about 1 year (derived: 12 credits over 2 semesters).
The Certificate in Construction Management is offered in hybrid and online versions with different requirements.
CM Certificate Curriculum
- Hybrid core (9): Fundamentals of Construction Management or Construction Project Management; VDC/BIM, BIM II, or CAD; Capstone Project, Capstone Internship, or Real Estate Development Charrette
- Hybrid elective (3): design studio, forensic engineering, real estate, or leadership options
- Online core (9): Construction Project Management or Project Management Techniques; CAD; Construction Site Practicum (2); Construction Management Seminars (1)
- Online elective (3): from the online M.S. elective list
The certificate covers project management, BIM, and one applied course. It works as a short credential or as the first 12 credits of the M.S.
You Should Know
- To count the hybrid certificate toward the M.S., students must take a 1-credit seminar or a 2-credit MGT course as the elective. Either alone leaves the 3-credit elective short, so confirm the plan with an advisor.
- The online version requires a Construction Site Practicum; how a site practicum runs online is not clearly stated.
CM Certificate Admissions
Same bachelor’s field restriction as the M.S.; GRE and GMAT not required.
Graduate Certificate in Sustainable Construction
The estimated tuition for the Graduate Certificate in Sustainable Construction at University of Miami is approximately $33,156 (12 credits at $2,763/credit).
The program can generally be completed in about 1 year (derived: 12 credits over 2 semesters).
The Certificate in Sustainable Construction is also offered in hybrid and online versions.
Sustainable Certificate Curriculum
- Sustainability (3): Sustainable Construction, or Sustainability and LEED Exam Prep (hybrid) or Building Technology (online)
- Finance (3): Construction Accounting and Finance
- Law (3): Legal Issues in Building Construction
- Elective (3): resilient design, facilities, risk and resilience, or sustainable business courses (hybrid); online M.S. electives (online)
Despite the name, only one of the four courses is about sustainability; the other core courses are finance and law. Together with the CM certificate, it supplies 24 of the 30 M.S. credits, and the remaining 6 come from two practicum or capstone courses.
You Should Know
- The hybrid LEED Exam Prep option is the only course in UM’s CM offerings tied to an industry credential.
- Students applying the hybrid certificate to the M.S. must choose a sustainable business elective (MGT 646, MGT 667, or MKT 653).
Sustainable Certificate Admissions
Same bachelor’s field restriction as the M.S.; GRE and GMAT not required.
Tuition
UM charges $2,763 per graduate credit in 2026-27. The rate is the same for Florida and out-of-state students. Student fees are billed per semester and depend on full-time status (9+ credits in fall or spring, 6+ in summer).
| Fee (per semester) | Full-Time Fall/Spring | Part-Time Fall/Spring | Summer Part-Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Health and Counseling Centers | $254 | $254 | $127 |
| Student Center Complex | $230 | $115 | $115 |
| Activity | $46 | Optional | Optional |
| Athletic | $180 | Optional | N/A |
| Required total | $710 | $369 | $242 |
| Wellness (charged unless declined) | $171 | Optional | Optional |
- Hybrid M.S., 1-year plan: $82,890 tuition + $1,662 fees = $84,552
- Hybrid M.S., 1.5-year plan: $82,890 + $2,372 = $85,262
- Executive M.S., 1.5-year plan: $82,890 + $2,614 = $85,504
- Certificates: $33,156 tuition plus fees for two semesters
Be aware that:
- The CM programs are not listed in UM’s special-pricing schedule, so the standard $2,763 rate applies. UM prices some online graduate programs below that rate, but the online CM programs do not appear on the UOnline tuition table. Confirm the online rate before enrolling.
- Whether online-only students pay the per-semester student fees is not clearly stated.
- Enrollment in an 800-level course counts as full-time for fees regardless of credits, so the Executive capstone semester bills full-time fees.
- The $171 wellness fee is charged automatically unless declined by the drop deadline each semester.
- Tuition and fees are set annually and subject to change.
All-in, the M.S. runs about $84,500 to $85,500 for campus students before books and living costs. That is roughly twice the tuition of Everglades University’s 36-credit online M.S. (about $39,400). UM’s price buys an interdisciplinary elective pool, a Miami industry advisory board, and the Executive cohort format, not programmatic accreditation. See UM’s 2026-27 tuition and fees schedule.
Why Choose This Construction Management Program?
Best suited for engineers, architects, and business graduates who want a management master’s from a research university in a large construction market, and who can absorb private-university tuition.
Flexibility in how you get there. Few decisions are locked in at entry. A student can start with one 12-credit certificate, add the second, and finish the M.S. with two practicums. That spreads cost over time and leaves an exit with a credential after 12 credits.
The Executive M.S. for working leaders. Ten seats, evening and weekend classes, and industry-leader faculty suit superintendents and project managers moving into company leadership. Students should confirm how the practical-experience requirement and the risk core are applied.
Cost verdict. At about $83,000 in tuition, UM costs more than double the online M.S. at Everglades University and carries no ACCE accreditation. Students whose employers pay, or who value UM’s name and Miami network, will find the price easier to justify. Students paying out of pocket for a credential alone should compare first.
Accreditation and Credentials
The University of Miami is a private, not-for-profit university accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award baccalaureate, master’s, educational specialist, and doctoral degrees. Institutional accreditation makes students eligible for federal financial aid and lets other accredited schools evaluate UM credits. See UM’s accreditation page.
The construction management programs do not hold programmatic accreditation. UM does not appear on the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE) master’s list (revision 2025.03.20), which names six accredited master’s programs nationwide. Master’s-level ACCE accreditation is uncommon, so its absence is less significant than it would be for a bachelor’s degree.
The hybrid curriculum includes an optional Sustainability and LEED Exam Prep course. UM does not state that any program awards an OSHA card or prepares students for Florida contractor licensing or the AIC Associate Constructor exam.
