State College of Florida offers 1 construction management pathway: an A.S. in Construction Management Technology.
Program Pathways Overview
| Program | Est. Tuition | Est. Duration | Credit Hours |
|---|---|---|---|
| A.S. | $6.1K in-state / $23.2K out-of-state | 2 years (4 semesters) | 60 |
Tuition estimates use State College of Florida’s current lower-division per-credit tuition plus mandatory fees.
- Why choose it: Three of the 15 major courses cover energy performance: energy-efficient HVAC, energy-efficient building construction, and solar energy. Manatee and Sarasota County students who finish a building trades, HVAC, or CAD program with an industry credential can earn up to 9 articulated credits.
- Trade-off: Four required courses come from manufacturing and industrial technology, and only one is a dedicated project management class. There is no standalone scheduling, contracts, or construction accounting course.

A.S. in Construction Management Technology
The estimated tuition for the Construction Management Technology A.S. at State College of Florida is approximately $6,149 (60 credits at $102.48/credit). The program can generally be completed in about 2 years (4 semesters), a derived figure based on 15 credits per term.
A.S. Curriculum
The degree has 15 general education credits and 45 program credits, all 3-credit courses. The 15 program courses sort this way:
- Construction management core (4): Building Construction Materials and Methods, Building Codes and Specifications, Building Construction Estimating, Project Management
- Energy and sustainability (3): Energy Efficient HVAC Engineering, Energy Efficient Building Construction, Introduction to Solar Energy
- Industrial and manufacturing (4): Production and Inventory Control, Quality Assurance, Industrial Safety, Introduction to Electronics
- Drafting and CAD (2): Construction Drafting, Introduction to AutoCAD
- Field skills (1): Surveying Construction Layout
- Work experience (1): Internship in Technology
- General education: Written Communication I, College Algebra, a civics/American history choice, plus one humanities and one natural science elective
The energy block is the program’s clearest identity. Students who want to work on high-performance homes, solar installs, or energy code compliance get more of that content here than in a general CM degree. The industrial block reflects SCF’s shared “Industry, Manufacturing and Construction” pathway, and it is useful for students who may end up in facilities or plant construction.
You Should Know
- The program’s six learning outcomes focus on drafting, CAD, technical math, and AEC drawings. None mention estimating, scheduling, or project control, though the program goal targets project managers and estimators.
- College Algebra is the only math. Bachelor’s programs in construction management usually expect more, so plan extra math if you might transfer later.
- AutoCAD is the only software named. Revit, Procore, Primavera P6, and Bluebeam do not appear in the required courses.
More curriculum details are available here.
A.S. Internship and Field Experience
- Required: yes, ETD 2949 Internship in Technology is part of the 45 program credits
- Credits: 3
- Hours: Not clearly stated
- Paid status: Not clearly stated
- Placement support: Not clearly stated
- Employer partners: Not clearly stated
A required internship means every graduate leaves with at least one construction reference and a line of real job experience. That matters for superintendent and assistant project manager roles, where employers weigh site time heavily. Ask the program manager how placements are arranged before enrolling, since the catalog does not say whether SCF places students or students find their own sites.
A.S. Admissions
Admission follows SCF’s open-admission process; nothing in the program record adds a limited-access step.
- Open admission to the college; no separate program application stated
- Math placement into College Algebra needed; developmental courses may extend the timeline
- Recommended course sequence assumes a full-time fall start
- Program manager: Samuel Aldrich, 941-752-5487, AldricS@SCF.edu
You Should Know
- Under SCF’s 2025–2027 local articulation agreement, Manatee and Sarasota County students can earn credit toward this degree. Building trades completers with OSHA 10, NCCER, or HBI PACT credentials can earn Industrial Safety and Materials and Methods (6 credits), plus Estimating (3 credits) with an NCCER or HBI carpentry credential.
- HVAC/R technical college completers can earn Industrial Safety and Energy Efficient Building Construction. CAD and Modeling completers with Autodesk Certified User – AutoCAD can earn Introduction to AutoCAD.
- You must enroll in the A.S. within two years of finishing high school or the technical program, and submit an Articulated Credit form with transcripts.
Tuition
SCF charges $102.48 per credit in-state: $78.84 tuition plus $23.64 in mandatory fees. Out-of-state students pay $386.52 per credit: $78.84 tuition plus $307.68 in fees. All courses in this program are 1000- or 2000-level, so the lower-division rate applies.
| Item | In-State | Out-of-State |
|---|---|---|
| Tuition per credit | $78.84 | $78.84 |
| Mandatory fees per credit | $23.64 | $307.68 |
| Total per credit | $102.48 | $386.52 |
| 60-credit program total (derived) | $6,148.80 | $23,191.20 |
Mandatory fees cover the student activity and service fee, financial aid fee, technology fee, and capital improvement fee.
Be aware that:
- Rates are set for the fall, spring, and summer terms and are subject to annual increases.
- Lab fees for the four lecture/lab (“C” suffix) courses are not stated on the tuition page.
- Books, tools, and transportation are not included.
- The optional Nelnet payment plan adds a $35–$45 enrollment fee per term.
- Articulated credit can lower the total. Nine articulated credits would save about $922 in-state.
At about $6,100 in-state, the full A.S. is a low-cost entry into construction management. Out-of-state students pay nearly four times as much, so this degree makes the most financial sense for Florida residents. See SCF’s official tuition page for current rates.
Why Choose This Construction Management Program?
Best suited for students who want a fast, low-cost credential, are interested in energy-efficient building, and plan to go straight to work in Manatee or Sarasota County.
Local trades graduates. Students coming out of a county building trades, HVAC, or CAD program get the most value. Articulated credit for courses they have effectively completed shortens the degree and lowers the bill, as long as they enroll within the two-year window.
Green-building focus. The three energy courses give graduates talking points that general CM programs often lack: HVAC efficiency, envelope performance, and solar basics. That fits residential builders and energy-focused contractors.
Who should look elsewhere. Students set on a bachelor’s in construction management, or on project-controls roles that rely on scheduling and BIM software, will find thin coverage here. SCF’s own A.A. degree is the transfer-designed route, so that choice should be made before the first semester rather than after.
Accreditation and Credentials
State College of Florida is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award associate and baccalaureate degrees. Regional accreditation is what makes students eligible for federal financial aid and lets credits be evaluated for transfer by other accredited schools. See SCF’s accreditation page.
SCF does not list programmatic accreditation for this program from the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE) or ABET’s Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission. Most two-year construction programs do not hold it, so its absence is normal at this level.
The degree does not embed an industry certification. Its value for credentials runs the other way: OSHA 10, NCCER, HBI PACT, HVAC Excellence, and Autodesk Certified User credentials earned in local programs can convert into college credit here. SCF does not state any Florida contractor-licensing or AIC Associate Constructor exam relevance for this degree.
