B.S. in Construction Engineering Technology
The estimated tuition for the B.S. in Construction Engineering Technology at Oklahoma State University is approximately $67,512 in-state or $134,707 out-of-state (124 credits at about $549.95/credit in-state, incl. fees).
The program can generally be completed in about 4 years, including two summer practicums.
The degree comes in two options with the same 124 credits: Building (vertical) and Heavy (highway, civil, and industrial). The Francis and Kathleen Rooney CET program sits in OSU’s Fire, Construction and Emergency Management unit.
CET B.S. Curriculum
The degree combines 43 general education credits, 22 college credits, 53 major credits, and 6 elective credits.
- Math and science: Calculus I and two semesters of physics, each with a C or better, plus 4 more lab-science credits.
- Engineering core: Statics, Strength of Materials, Engineering Surveying, a soils lab, and Economic Decision Analysis.
- Estimating and scheduling: Estimating I and II, Scheduling Construction Projects, and Technology in Construction (Building option).
- Structures and methods: Concrete Technology, Field Engineering Applications, Site Development, Structural Steel Design and Connections, and Concrete Design and Formwork.
- Management and law: Business Practices for Construction, Construction Law and Insurance, Construction Safety and Loss Control, and Financial Accounting.
- Capstone: Construction Manager Concepts, covering estimating, scheduling, bidding, safety, and project management software.
- Option split: Building adds Environmental Building Systems and Technology in Construction; Heavy adds Equipment Management and Heavy Civil Construction and Estimating.
The CET degree leans technical. About 12 required courses cover structures, materials, surveying, and site work, against roughly 9 management, estimating, scheduling, and law courses. Steel design and concrete design with formwork are courses many management-only degrees skip, and they prepare graduates for field engineering roles. The calculus and physics floor matches engineering-technology expectations, not a business-school CM degree.
More curriculum details are available here.
You Should Know
- Most required CET courses need a C or better, and the program requires a 2.0 technical GPA.
- Four required CET courses are lecture/lab, so the degree is campus-based.
- CAD and BIM for Construction Managers is an elective. The required printreading course covers 2D and 3D drawings, but OSU names no specific software in either course.
- Students on the 2026-27 plan must finish by the end of summer 2032.
CET B.S. Internship and Field Experience
- Requirement: two practicums, CET 3322 and CET 3332, each 2 credits.
- Hours: 400 documented hours each, 800 in total, usually completed in summer.
- Practicum II: described as supervised temporary, full-time employment covering field and office engineering.
- Placement: OSU says CET students “obtain guaranteed internships” and hosts an annual Construction Industry Career Fair. Paid status is not clearly stated.
- Exam: every graduate must sit for the AIC Associate Constructor (Level 1) exam or the FE exam. OSU’s CET program is an AIC testing site.
Two summers of documented work give CET graduates 800 hours of site and office time before graduation, compared with the single 480-hour internship in OU’s campus B.S. The required exam sitting pushes students toward an early professional credential, though OSU requires students to sit, not pass.
CET B.S. Admissions
Admission runs through OSU’s standard undergraduate process; Construction Law and Insurance requires acceptance to the upper division of the major.
- Freshmen apply through OSU undergraduate admissions.
- Printreading and Estimating I require a C or better in College Algebra or higher, or an ALEKS score of 56 or more.
- OSU-OKC publishes a transfer map from its Construction Management Technology A.A.S. into this degree.
- Transfer students must complete at least 30 hours at OSU, with no more than half the major requirements as transfer work.
Bachelor of Architectural Engineering, Construction Project Management Option
The estimated tuition for the Architectural Engineering: Construction Project Management BEN at Oklahoma State University is approximately $78,988 in-state or $160,273 out-of-state (140 credits over 10 full-time semesters, incl. fees).
The program can generally be completed in about 5 years (10 semesters).
BEN Curriculum
OSU’s School of Architecture runs this five-year engineering degree. It totals 43 general education credits, 28 college credits, 63 professional-school credits, and 6 controlled electives.
- Math and science: Calculus I, II, and III, Differential Equations, University Physics I and II, General Chemistry for Engineers, and Engineering Statistics.
- Design studios: Architectural Design Studio I and II, plus the 6-credit Architectural Engineering Comprehensive Design Studio capstone.
- Structures: Statics, Dynamics, Strength of Materials, Steel I, Concrete I, Foundations, and Timber and Masonry Design.
- Building science: Thermal Systems and Life Safety, and Acoustics, Lighting, and Service Systems.
- Construction management: Architectural Project Management, Construction Engineering and Project Management (CIVE 4273), and one of estimating, simulation, business management, or contracts.
- Controlled electives (6 credits): choices include Real Estate Development, Contract Administration, Scheduling, Estimating I and II, and construction law.
This is a structural and building-systems engineering degree with a construction flavor. Required construction management coursework is about 9 of 140 credits, rising to 15 if both electives are construction courses. It suits students aiming for project engineering and a PE license, not general contractors’ management tracks.
More curriculum details are available here.
You Should Know
- Students must be admitted to the Professional School of Architecture for upper-division work. Courses marked as prerequisites need a C or better first.
- Two required courses (ARCH 5023 and ARCH 5226, 9 credits) are 5000-level. OSU bills 5000-level courses at the graduate rate; whether that applies within the block is not clearly stated.
- OSU states graduates must pass the FE exam, then the PE or SE exam, to become licensed engineers.
BEN Internship and Field Experience
The BEN plan lists no required internship, practicum, or co-op. Field exposure depends on the student and the studio projects. Construction-bound students should plan summer jobs on their own, since the degree doesn’t build them in the way the CET B.S. does.
BEN Admissions
Admission is two-step: OSU admission, then a separate application to the Professional School of Architecture.
- Professional school admission criteria vary by matriculation year; see the OSU catalog for the year you enter.
- Graduation requires a 2.0 technical GPA and a C or better in all ARCH courses.
Graduate Certificate in Construction Project Administration
The estimated tuition for the Graduate Certificate in Construction Project Administration at Oklahoma State University is approximately $10,340 in-state or $21,842 out-of-state (17 credits at $608.25/credit in-state, incl. fees).
The program can generally be completed in about 1 year (derived: 17 credits at 9 credits per semester).
Certificate Curriculum
The certificate requires 9 core credits and 8 elective credits.
- Required: Integrated Project Delivery Methods, Business Practices for Construction, and Construction Law and Insurance.
- Electives (choose 3): Construction Practice (400-hour field course), Advanced Environmental Building Systems, Heavy Civil Construction and Estimating, Evidence-Based Decision Making, Project Management, and Risk Analysis.
The certificate is a short management-and-law credential layered on a construction background, not an entry point for career changers. Graduate versions of OSU’s undergraduate CET courses make up much of it.
You Should Know
- Business Practices requires prior accounting, scheduling, and construction law; Construction Law requires Estimating I and Speech. Students without CET coursework face prerequisites before enrolling.
- If Construction Practice is not selected, the certificate rises to 18 credits.
- Delivery format is not clearly stated. OSU’s lower online graduate rate applies only to 100% online programs, and this certificate is not confirmed as one.
Certificate Internship and Field Experience
No internship is required. The optional Construction Practice elective requires 400 documented hours of supervised field work with professional responsibility.
Certificate Admissions
Applicants apply through the OSU Graduate College. Minimum GPA and other entry rules follow general Graduate College regulations; certificate-specific requirements are not clearly stated.
Civil engineering graduate students can also specialize in Construction Engineering and Management within OSU’s M.S. in Civil Engineering, with courses in simulation, BIM, estimating, contracts, and equipment management. That degree sits outside this profile’s scope.
Tuition
OSU charges full-time undergraduates (12-18 hours) a block rate of $2,836.50 tuition plus $2,004 in university-wide fees, or $4,840.50 per semester in-state for 2026-27. Out-of-state students pay $10,965 tuition plus $2,004 in fees, or $12,969. Engineering students also pay a CEAT college fee and status-based fees on every credit hour.
| Item (per credit) | Undergrad In-State | Undergrad Out-of-State | Graduate In-State |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tuition | $189.10 | $731.00 | $244.90 |
| University-wide fees | $133.60 | $133.60 | $133.60 |
| CEAT college fee | $183.25 | $183.25 | $183.25 |
| Infrastructure + Student Success fees (years 1-3) | $44.00 | $44.00 | $44.00 |
| Graduate College program fee | n/a | n/a | $2.50 |
| Total per credit | $549.95 | $1,091.85 | $608.25 |
- CET B.S. (derived): 8 block semesters, 4 summer practicum credits at the per-credit rate, plus college and status fees on 124 credits: $67,511.80 in-state, $134,707.40 out-of-state.
- BEN (derived): 10 block semesters plus college and status fees on 140 credits: $78,988 in-state, $160,273 out-of-state.
- Graduate certificate (derived): 17 credits at $608.25 in-state ($10,340.25) or $1,284.85 out-of-state ($21,842.45).
- Status fees drop to $22 per credit after three years at the same program level; the estimates assume about three-quarters of credits at $44.
Be aware that:
- The CEAT college fee adds about $2,750 per full-time semester on top of the block rate.
- OSU bills 5000-level courses at the graduate rate. If the BEN’s 9 graduate-level credits fall outside the block, add about $502 in-state or $1,715 out-of-state (derived).
- Students who choose the Tuition Lock Program pay $217.40 per credit instead of $189.10, in exchange for a fixed rate.
- Course-specific lab and equipment fees, housing, and meals are not included.
- OSU’s online graduate rate ($512 in-state, $555 out-of-state per credit) would put the certificate at $8,704-$9,435, but only if OSU treats it as a 100% online program.
For Oklahoma residents, the CET B.S. runs about $67.5K in tuition and fees, roughly $3.6K more than OU’s ACCE-accredited campus B.S. in Construction Science. The CEAT college and status fees are the reason OSU’s real per-credit cost ($549.95) runs about 70% above the block rate’s per-credit equivalent ($322.70). Out-of-state students pay roughly double, which makes residency the biggest cost lever. See OSU’s tuition and fees page for current rates.
Why Choose This Construction Management Program?
Best suited for students who want to manage construction from an engineering base, with design math and two summers of field work built into the degree.
Choose the CET B.S. to run jobs. It fits students headed for project engineer, estimator, or superintendent roles, and the Building and Heavy options let students aim at commercial or highway and civil work from the start. Compared with OU’s ACCE-accredited B.S., OSU offers more structural design and field hours, while OU offers more management depth and ACCE status.
Choose the BEN to design and build. The five-year architectural engineering degree suits students who want a PE license and structural or building-systems work, with construction management as a secondary skill. It costs about $11.5K more in-state and an extra year.
Choose the certificate to add credentials. The 17-credit graduate certificate suits OSU CET graduates or industry professionals with construction coursework who want delivery methods, business practice, and law on a graduate transcript. Career changers will hit prerequisite gaps and should look at OU’s online M.C.B. or graduate certificate.
Accreditation and Credentials
Oklahoma State University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. Institutional accreditation supports credit transfer and federal financial aid eligibility.
OSU states that the CET B.S. is accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET, and the program changed its name from Construction Management Technology in 2018 because of that accreditation. The Bachelor of Architectural Engineering is accredited by ABET’s Engineering Accreditation Commission. Neither degree is on ACCE’s baccalaureate list (March 2024 revision); in Oklahoma, that list includes only OU’s Construction Science program. ABET accreditation matters for engineering licensure paths, while ACCE is the construction-specific credential many contractors recognize.
CET graduates must sit for the AIC Associate Constructor or FE exam, and OSU hosts AIC testing on campus. The safety course covers OSHA Part 1926 and topics from the OSHA 30-hour program, though OSU does not state that students receive an OSHA 30 card. OSU makes no statement about Oklahoma contractor licensing.
