Tuition estimates use Wallace State’s Fall 2026 per-credit tuition plus mandatory fees.

  • Why choose it: Wallace State’s A.A.S. includes a 3-credit course built around Alabama’s residential home builder license exam (BUC 150), backed by residential estimating, building codes, contracting law, and an OSHA 10 card. Both short-term certificates stack fully into the degree.
  • Trade-off: The degree is an applied, workforce A.A.S. with no internship and no programmatic accreditation. Its construction courses carry transfer Code C, so each four-year school decides what it accepts.

A.A.S. in Construction Management Technology

The estimated tuition for the A.A.S. in Construction Management Technology at Wallace State Community College is approximately $12,400 in-state (62 credits at $200/credit).

The program can generally be completed in about 1.5 to 2 years (4 semesters, including a summer term).

A.A.S. Curriculum

The degree totals 62 credits: 16 in general education and 46 in the program. Course mix by type:

  • Management, business, and law (6 courses, 18 credits): BUC 133 Building Codes (with real estate and scheduling), BUC 142 Construction Estimating, BUC 150 Homebuilders License Exam Review, CMT 156 Contracting and Construction Law, CMT 205 Construction Management, CMT 220 Sustainable Project Delivery
  • Design, drafting, and site (6 courses, 18 credits): ADM 102 Computer Aided Design, AET 290 Building Information Modeling, ADM 114 Design Innovation, EGR 125 Modern Graphics for Engineers, CDT 205 Fundamentals of Surveying, AET 221 Energy Design of Buildings
  • Materials and systems (3 courses, 9 credits): CMT 101 Construction Materials and Methods, CMT 102 Construction Blueprint Reading, CMT 175 Electrical and Plumbing Systems
  • Safety (1 credit): CMT 114 10 Hour OSHA Construction Safety
  • Math: MTH 100 Intermediate College Algebra, then MTH 112 Precalculus Algebra
  • General education: ORI 110, ENG 101, IDS 102 Ethics, HIS 201 U.S. History I

Management and design carry equal weight, 18 credits each. The management side is residential in focus. Estimating covers quantity take-off for a house, and BUC 150 reviews residential framing, finish work, and estimating for the state builder exam. The design side leans on engineering technology, with three drafting and graphics courses plus BIM, surveying, and energy design. The math sequence stops at precalculus algebra and does not include trigonometry. More curriculum details are available here.

You Should Know
  • ⚠️ The 2026–2027 completion map places CMT 205 (offered spring and summer) in Semester 4, which falls in fall for a fall starter. The catalog course page lists CMT 205 every term. Confirm the sequence with an advisor.
  • CDT 205 Surveying runs in spring only, and the map lists CMT 102 Blueprint Reading in summer only. The catalog marks CMT 102 and CMT 114 “as needed.”
  • The CAD and BIM course descriptions do not name a software package.
  • Two general education courses (IDS 102, HIS 201) may be substituted with the instructor’s approval.
  • The program page shows an NC3 logo but names no NC3 credential earned in the program.

A.A.S. Internship and Field Experience

  • Internship or co-op: none in the required curriculum
  • Field experience: lab work in CAD, BIM, design, and surveying courses
  • Employer partners: not named
  • Placement support: not clearly stated

Graduates leave without a required jobsite placement, so field experience has to come from outside the program. That matters for the licensing angle too. BUC 150 says students qualify for the residential exam only with appropriate field experience, and Alabama’s Home Builders Licensure Board requires applicants to meet its experience and ability requirements. Students already working in residential construction get the most from the degree.

A.A.S. Admissions

Admission follows Wallace State’s open-admission process; there is no separate program application.

  • Math placement into MTH 100 is needed to follow the published plan.
  • Starts: the plan’s courses open in fall, spring, and summer, but spring-only and summer-only courses shape the sequence.

Construction Basics Short-Term Certificate

The estimated tuition for the Construction Basics Short-Term Certificate at Wallace State Community College is approximately $4,200 in-state (21 credits at $200/credit).

The program can generally be completed in about 2 semesters, per Wallace State’s cost sheet.

Basics Certificate Curriculum

  • Management and law: CMT 156 Contracting and Construction Law, CMT 205 Construction Management, CMT 220 Sustainable Project Delivery
  • Materials and plans: CMT 101 Construction Materials and Methods, CMT 102 Construction Blueprint Reading
  • Design and site: AET 290 Building Information Modeling, CDT 205 Fundamentals of Surveying

All seven courses count in the A.A.S., so the certificate covers 21 of the degree’s 62 credits. It includes no math, estimating, codes, OSHA 10, or license exam review. Those stay in the degree.

Basics Certificate Internship and Field Experience

No internship or field placement is part of the certificate.

Basics Certificate Admissions

Open admission. Because CDT 205 runs in spring and CMT 102 in summer, a spring start lines up best with the two-semester estimate.

Construction Science Short-Term Certificate

The estimated tuition for the Construction Science Short-Term Certificate at Wallace State Community College is approximately $1,800 in-state (9 credits at $200/credit).

The program can generally be completed in about 1 semester.

Science Certificate Curriculum

  • AET 290 Building Information Modeling
  • CMT 101 Construction Materials and Methods
  • CMT 175 Electrical and Plumbing Systems

These are three of the A.A.S. first-semester courses, all offered every term. The certificate is a low-cost trial of the program rather than a management credential. Two courses overlap with the Basics certificate, so completing both covers 24 distinct A.A.S. credits.

Science Certificate Internship and Field Experience

No internship or field placement is part of the certificate.

Science Certificate Admissions

Open admission; all three courses run fall, spring, and summer.

Tuition

Wallace State charges $133 per credit in tuition plus $67 per credit in mandatory fees for Fall 2026, or $200 per credit in-state. Non-residents pay double tuition ($266) with the same fees, or $333 per credit.

Item (per credit)In-StateOut-of-State
Tuition$133$266
Fees (reserve $1, building $16, facility renewal $15, technology $15, enhancement $20)$67$67
Total per credit$200$333
A.A.S. (62 credits)$12,400$20,646
Construction Basics (21 credits)$4,200$6,993
Construction Science (9 credits)$1,800$2,997

Program-specific required costs on Wallace State’s 2026–27 cost sheets: $58 liability insurance and a $20 graduation fee for the A.A.S., which brings its required total to $12,478 in-state. See the official tuition and fees page.

Be aware that:

  • Liability insurance is $29 for the Basics certificate and $14.50 for the Science certificate, plus a $20 graduation fee for each.
  • The cost sheets list $550 in textbooks and $800 in program resources for the A.A.S. and $200 in textbooks for the Basics certificate.
  • The Paw Pack course-materials charge applies unless students opt out: $24 per credit on the Fall 2026 schedule but $27 per credit on the cost sheets ($1,674 for the A.A.S.).
  • The cost sheets’ in-state tuition lines use $133 per credit and leave out the $67 per credit in fees, while the out-of-state lines include them. The A.A.S. sheet understates in-state tuition and fees by $4,154 as a result.
  • Students not paid in full by the first due date are enrolled in a payment plan with a $25 fee and $50 late fees.
  • Eligible veterans and GI Bill users living in Alabama pay the in-state rate.

The realistic in-state budget for the degree is about $12,500 in required charges, or about $13,800 with the listed books and program resources. Out-of-state students pay about $8,200 more over 62 credits. Per-credit billing means part-time study costs the same per credit, but the spring-only and summer-only courses can stretch the calendar.

Why Choose This Construction Management Program?

Best suited for residential builders and tradespeople in north-central Alabama who want a low-cost credential that ties directly to the state home builder license.

Choose the A.A.S. if the goal is running residential jobs or a home building company. BUC 150 targets the Alabama Home Builders Licensure Board exams: an 80-question open-book skill exam and a 40-question business and law exam, per the board’s testing vendor. Codes, estimating, contracting law, and OSHA 10 sit beside it in the same degree. Wallace State’s Hanceville testing center is also one of the vendor’s Alabama exam sites.

Choose a certificate to test the field first. The Science certificate costs about $1,800 and the Basics certificate about $4,200, and every credit carries into the A.A.S. Neither includes the license exam review course.

Look elsewhere if the plan is a bachelor’s degree or ACCE status. The A.A.S. has no named transfer agreement. Four of its courses (CMT 101, CMT 102, CMT 205, CDT 205) appear in the AGSC/STARS Area V guide for Alabama A&M’s B.S. in Construction Management, but MTH 112 is not the MTH 113 that guide names. Jefferson State Community College in Birmingham holds ACCE accreditation for its Construction Management Technology associate degree.

Accreditation and Credentials

Wallace State Community College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award associate degrees. That status supports federal financial aid eligibility and credit transfer review.

Wallace State names no programmatic accreditor for construction management. The program does not appear on ACCE’s associate degree list (Rev. 2025.03.20), which includes Jefferson State Community College in Alabama.

The A.A.S. embeds an OSHA 10 card through CMT 114. BUC 150 prepares students for the Alabama home builder license exams, but the course and the board both tie licensure to field experience. Wallace State does not state that the degree counts toward the board’s experience requirement. The program does not mention AIC exam preparation.
